[ or the robb stark who laughed and tumbled in the godswood at winterfell must fade and make way for the man and the king, but that's a painful thing that robb does not think of. ]

[This is quiet. It's an admitting of guilt.]

[ there is a shocked pause. ]

[ because robb can't understand. they are their father's sons. they are the blood of lord eddard stark of winterfell, and robb is young yet, too young to know what it is to break his word, or that he someday will. ]

Why did you ask me this, Robb?

[Did you think the answers would be easy? A simple no, as if anything in Jon Snow's life is easy.]

Because I didn't want to believe her implications were true.

[ and he'd hoped that he could call her liar, but jon snow gives him a truth that robb hadn't wanted, doesn't know what to do with or react to. ]

[And he is. Sorry he slept with her, sorry he broke his vows, sorry he cannot be strong enough to resist her, sorry he had to tell Robb.]

[ there is a long, terrible silence, and then robb hangs up. it's perhaps cowardly and unfair, but he can't. all has changed around him while he's not changed at all, and he's angry with jon somehow, for not being the same, for running ahead of him as everyone else has and for changing into something robb cna't understand.

so he hangs up and goes away to bang his sword against the wall or something else dignified and kingly. ]
